Little Italy Mercato

11:44 AM

Happy Labor Day everyone! I went to Little Italy last Saturday, a neighborhood in San Diego, to attend one of the larger farmer's markets in the city. My friends and I arrived around 10AM and it was already crowded with people of all ages. There was live music and people bustling throughout the street.  The white tents spanned across 4-5 blocks, selling various produce, food and art. By the time I arrived, the sun was already warming up the atmosphere, and soon enough my neck was blazing hot. There were many different vendors selling food from different cuisines such as Thai and Mexican. Samples were given to us all around, and we definitely did not hesitate to pop these goodies into our mouths.

Enough talkin' now; here comes the photo spam!

 Uni
Sea urchin, freshly shucked from its spikiness. My friend bought the creamy goodness for $6 at one of the seafood counters (the other seafood stall sold it for $7 for take home, $10 for shucked). The orangey-yellow goo in the middle are actually the gonads of the sea urchin. My other friends described that it tasted like the sea: salty. It may be a bit odd for some, but if you want something different, please do try it :)
